Fabric rose & ribbon wreath

Ok. So my Mom likes Coca-Cola themed items. Truth be told - she is obsessed with Coca-Cola, she has an entire room OVERFLOWING with Cola-Cola items. While cute, it almost looks like a red, black & white bomb exploded in there. So I thought, she needs just ONE MORE THING to put in there :) (Love that Lady)

Let's get this wreath party started!

The Supplies:
1-Styrofoam ring ($3.99); 5 -1/4 yard of various patterns of fabric (round about $5); 1 spool wide ribbon ($2); 1 spool narrow ribbon ($2) - you can decide what width you like best, I went w/ 1.5 & .5.
Wrap your wreath with your wide ribbon (and improvise with a little coordinating fabric if you didn't buy enough like yours truly). Secure along the way with little dabs of hot glue.

Cut your fabric into about 2inch wide strips. Doesn't have to be perfect, a little imperfection gives it "charm"
Ok - on to making the fabric rose:
Flip your fabric strip over and hot glue it on the bottom to halve it.
This is what you should be looking at now.
Half it again, but only the first 6 inches of the strip.

Start at the end and roll it up. I secure every 2 rounds or so with a teeny dot of hot glue.
Ok, here comes the semi-tricky part. You ready? After the doubled section ends, twist the ribbon about a half turn, dot of glue, half-twist, glue. It's ok if the seam shows a little (charm, remember?). Do this until you have a little material left.
Wrap the last bit of material around the back and secure with my best friend (aka hot glue)

It should look something like this. Although each rose looks a little different (which is nice, makes them unique)
Glue them bad boys on all cute like. (I used hot glue, but gorilla glue should work just as well)
Place your narrow ribbon on the remaining portion and make a snake effect by making an arch and securing with glue at the bottom (I just eyeballed the width, it came out to about an inch or so).
Add a little bling.bling - I placed some left over from another project rhinestones I had in the valley of the narrow ribbon, to the top of some roses, and in between some roses as well.

Viola! A Coca-Cola inspired wreath for the beautiful woman who birthed me.... hope she likes it!

Ribbon Cork Board (Peace signs)

My oldest Lovie (Miss Madi) and I were waiting in line at Hobby Lobby to get some material cut (for a different project) & she spotted a picture of a cork board covered in ribbon. It looked cute, so I figured I would give it a try and since she happened to be the one with me that trip, she got to choose her theme - she picked a peace sign (her current fav design).

First, the supplies. 1 - 11x17 unframed cork board ($5); 2 spools of ribbon ($2 each); wooden (sold already blue glittered up) peace sign ($.99). Total cost of supplies $9.99! (I ran out of ribbon, but improvised, so I suggest getting 2 spools of ribbon #1).

To start this bad boy, line up & cut out strips of ribbon #1 with just a little overhang. (I opted for diagonal design, but you can do straight up and down if you prefer, it looks good both ways in my opinion).

Then, glue the overhang with a little hot glue. The back will look crazy with random strips of ribbon, but don't worry - No one but you will see the back :)

After all rows of the first ribbon are secure, thread through the second ribbon (over/under). I wanted to keep the middle of the cork board as functional as possible, so I only secured the second ribbon at each end only (with hot glue)

Sooo, this is what it looks like once you are to this point IF you only bought one spool of ribbon #1 and ran out & had a random spot of cork board showing in the bottom left corner like I did. But since I was in my PJs crafting, I decided instead of making another trip to the store, I would improvise.
Add a strip of ribbon #2 at the top to make a border & apply a wooden 'flair' piece if you so desire. I then added a piece of ribbon #2 at the random spot of cork board showing... but wasn't satisfied with the result.
So, I made a little 'tac holder' with ribbon #2 and (you guessed it) hot glued it into place!

Voila! Peace sign cork board. Miss Madi said it was the "most awesome cork board" she had ever seen in her WHOLE LIFE - and after 10 years of life & shopping with me, I'm sure she has seen more than her fair share of cork boards ;)
Hubby will hang on the wall securely with 3m poster holders.

Total crafting time = 38 minutes

Heart Wreath (Cowgirl)

My wonderful sister-in-law just re-did my niece's room in a 'pink outdoor' theme. I wanted to make something special (and cute) for the room, so I stalked over to Tater Tots and Jello http://tatertotsandjello.com/2010/09/happy-halloween-wreath-tutorial.html where I found this cute wreath and decided to put my own spin on it...

First, I went to Hobby Lobby where I bought a heart shaped wire wreath & various sizes of coordinating ribbon.

I then cut my ribbon into 5 inch strips. Above is an example of when I started, but I used all 7 spools of ribbon completely. You will need even more ribbon if you want the ribbon completely covering your wreath (I only did the front and sides)

I used my handy hot glue gun to make a loop. I prefer to have one side of the ribbon just a tad bit longer than the other other, as I think it makes it easier to glue & position.

Next, I wrapped my heart in pink ribbon. Don't worry if it doesn't look perfect, you won't be able to see any imperfections once it is completed.

Start gluing away. I simply hot glued the ribbons on. I started off too conservative and went back and added more ribbon at the end to give it a fuller look. you can always add more ribbon to get the look you desire :)

Viola! Its done. I added a length of ribbon at the top with a loop (achieved with hot glue of course) so she could hang on the wall.

*This project took about 2 1/2 hours to complete.

Welcome to my world!

As a full time working mom of 3 & wife of 1, I rarely have time to think of original craft ideas. So, I stalk Pinterest and craft blogs to find inspiration for fun things to do around the house. I assume I am not the only one out there with this same issue :).  My goal is that this can be a place where lots of ideas come to life!
